Troubleshooting

What you see	What to do
Start recording is greyed out	The tab is a page extensions cannot record (a chrome:// page or a browser store). The popup says so; open your own website and try again.
Nothing is recorded	Reload the page after installing the extension and press Start recording again.
The downloaded test says Cannot find module '@playwright/test'	Run npm i -D @playwright/test in the folder with the file, then npx playwright install chromium.
The downloaded test says Set STEPTRAIL_SECRET_...	The flow had a password or upload. The top of the file lists the settings to set before running.
Cannot find package 'playwright-core'	Run npm install in the steptrails folder.
Executable doesn't exist	Run npx playwright-core install chromium.
page mismatch: expected ... found ...	The site sent you elsewhere, often a login page. Record with Include session values, or log in first.
element not found	The page changed since recording. Record again, or open the HTML report to see the screenshot.
masked value needs a secret	Supply the password through STEPTRAIL_SECRETS. See Replay.
upload needs file paths	Supply STEPTRAIL_FILES.
The extension is out of date after git pull	Click the reload arrow on StepTrail Recorder in the extensions page.
